It’s a simple idea, and executed pretty well: Dopetracks adapts the Youtube “video response” scheme into an online MC battle. The separation of work between beat-making and rhyming is a particularly savvy move, although Mashable correctly points out the lameness of the voting system not applying to beats. I suppose the beatsmith’s reward is in getting MC’s to use their stuff in the first place.

There isn’t much there yet, and I didn’t find any tracks I particularly like– but the “Duble It” beat is pleasingly head-noddable.

Dopetracks is worth keeping an eye on.

**More**: It appears that Dopetracks user ‘Chali2na‘ is the real thing.

If you’re in Cali (where we all know the best weed is), you won’t get shit if you ask for dope. Maybe some smack…

I still hear the word “dope” around my recording studio all the time, but never referring to weed. Only my 65 year old dad still calls weed “dope”.
